Motivation Australia is working in partnership with the Tungaru Rehabilitation Service, established in 2004 within the Kiribati Ministry of Health to establish a wheelchair service in Kiribati. We are seeking an experienced volunteer therapist to assist TRS by providing clinical supervision for TRS staff who have recently undergone wheelchair provision training with Motivation. The position in Kiribati is supported by Australian Volunteers International.
The Tungaru Rehabilitation Service comprises of two sections - the physiotherapy and prosthetic/orthotic section. TRS target groups include hospital in-patients requiring physiotherapy and people with a physical disability living in the community.
The successful applicant will provide clinical supervision for TRS staff in the provision of a wheelchair service; assist with the administrative and logistical details of establishing service delivery; and strengthen peer support available to wheelchair users living in the community. Motivation Australia will provide technical support to TRS and the AVI volunteer throughout the programme.
The suitable applicant will hold a relevant qualification, have practical experience in wheelchair assessment, prescription, fitting and user training. You will have a sound awareness of the rights of people with a disability, and a commitment to the development of services for people with a disability that are rights based, practical and effective.
