YogyakartaTrip

In November 2008 Motivation Australia carried out a technical feasibility study in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. We were invited to undertake the study by Caritas Germany and Karina KAS (Caritas Indonesia) to inform the planning of a programme to address the provision of appropriate wheelchairs in the area. The locations visited were situated in two provinces of Indonesia’s main Island, Java; Yogyakarta and Central Java.

Caritas CBR programme and their staff have had a significant positive impact on the quality of life of those who sustained an Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) as a result of the 2006 earthquake in the Bantul and Klaten districts of Java. Motivation Australia is extremely grateful for their support, assistance and information during the study and congratulates them on their great work to date.

The majority of the current beneficiaries of the Caritas CBR programme sustained their Spinal Cord Injuries during the 2006 earthquake. However Caritas would like to broaden their work to include other people with a mobility disability, particularly children with cerebral palsy who require supportive seating. During the feasibility study a number of stakeholders including government, businesses, NGOs, INGOs and wheelchair users were visited
