Keep Moving: new training resources

Phases of amputee management diagram

Motivation Australia has begun an exciting new project, commissioned by the World Health Organisation Western Pacific Regional Office, to develop training resources to help prevent lower limb amputation as a result of diabetes; and to support the return to mobility of men and women who have had an amputation.

To initiate the project, Motivation Australia and the Fiji National University (FNU) jointly convened a Working Meeting in July 2013 to consult with stakeholders re training resource priorities. The meeting was attended by 20 stakeholders from Fiji, Tonga, Solomon Islands and (via skype) the Marshall Islands. The meeting report highlights six priority areas for training resource development.

The project has now been joined by the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics Australian Member Society; who will be assisting through the provision of technical input and piloting material in Kiribati later this year.
